Eucharistic Ministers to Homebound
We arrive at mass a few minutes early and place our pix on the tray
for Father to place the amount of hosts we need into the pix. After
mass we sign our homebound into a
book which is in the sacristy. We go the homes of our parishioners
who are unable to attend mass
and who have requested Holy Communion. We are a listening ministry.
Our people share with us everything: pains, sorrow, joy, ills, and
family matters.
When they ask us to see a priest for confession or to be anointed,
we inform our priests.
We aid the homebound when we are able to do so (for example,
bringing them books to read, or just to
sit and play game of cards). We need to understand our faith so
that we can answer question we are asked.
They may tell us their story many times over and we listen as if it
is the first time. We bond with them and they with us.
Sometimes we are the only ones they see from the parish... We
journey with them, perhaps for many years
and walk the last journey with them. Some sit at their bedside as
they pass on or just hold their hand
right before they die. Eucharistic Ministers are compassionate and
have a deep love for those who are
unable to come to mass. This ministry is pure gift from the Father
in His Son and comes from the Holy Spirit.
